T-Shirts, Bags and the like! « Thread Started on Oct 12, 2005, 12:51am »
October had a subject that brought a lot of ideas to all our heads by the suggestion of a tote bag with our logo.
I seem a bit too internet prone and think that more ready cash would be raised by initial sales to members. I for one, am always in need of totes. I carry so much with me and handles break and a logo on a sturdy bag would be great advertising for the group and functional.
We tossed around imprinting art etc.
I have a great little inkjet, the cheapest I could find, and it makes top notch iron on transfers. I happily would put my own stuff on the empty side.
That idea plus a few thoughts about artist of the month and year reminded me of cafepress.com.
If we are a non profit, I think we have a chance to get a better rate, but they let you upload art and make products that you ONLY pay for what you print. The fund raising aspect is that we set the price. If we wanted to market a 12 page calendar, the group can mark it up $5 and that is the price it is ordered directly from the site. Then we have no OUT OF POCKET expense, can buy a few for one on one sales and any one IN THE WORLD that wants to order will send the profit directly to the group.

Thanks for posting Dj. I really enjoyed the energy at the meeting tonight. So many good ideas. And I agree, I think keeping it simple is the best policy. We will begin with bags that have our MAL logo and web address. And leave the other side blank for each artist to design.
To apply the MAL logo, we have had an offer to do silk screening for the cost of the ink only. I am waiting to hear more about this offer. I don't think we can beat it anywhere.
All members tonight were in favor of purchasing a $5.00 bag and we had 67 members at the meeting tonight!! It looks like it might cost 1.60 or so for the bag, then a tad more tacked on for printing. Sounds like a pretty solid money maker.
We can solicit the membership to paint for instance "garden" pictures and then place some bags in Neighbor's garden Cafe' . We take a photo of the painting, digitize it, and print it out on transfer paper.
We can get this part of the project underway and move forward with other ideas from there.
Love the suggestions and participation. I look forward to getting this rolling!
Anyone who wants to be a part of this team... email me. We are going to have fun silk screening logos on bags!! Join us.
