To you... What is the most important thing to remember to bring when you go out in the field to work?

A camera...When painting "en plien air" the skies, lighting and shadows are constantly changing, and often, I find I am not finished with my piece before I need to retire from my spot. If I have a camera on hand, I can take snapshots at different intervals in the day, take them home, review them, and look at what my work may use from the photos for improvement, and it allows me the opportunity to crtique my technique outside the moment I am working.

Great idea!
The camera is a great tool for continuing a plein air painting in the studio. Or, use your plein air painting and the photos to create a new painting in your studio.
With the camera, you can catch that perfect angle, the lighting and much more for use later on.
Nothing beats seeing it in person though! Actually doing part of the painting from life, or relying on your plein air sketch, more than photos, adds zest to your paintings, don't you think?

Some people I know who do travel sketch journals, (tho I've never done one) will jot down smells, sounds and other verbal info beside the pleinair sketch to get them in the mood again when they are back in the studio Rita
