Cynthia dropped me a line suggesting that all of us on the board begin a little dialog so we can keep in contact between meetings (and I was doing another soggy art event myself on the rainy day of the picnic) so I thought I might say hi.
I got a scholarship at the Scottsdale Artist's School to attend a one week workshop with Paul Leveille. I really suggest that all of the members that are interested click into their website www.scottsdaleartschool.org and check out their scholarship opportunities. They offer two rounds per year and this was exceptional. Many people don't know that this is an option but there is money set aside every year for scholarship and I really don't know that many take advantage of it!
On April 8 I will be doing a demonstration of a portrait to show what my donation of an 8x10 oil painting would look like. I was lucky enough to involve the charity, Scottsdale Training And Rehabilitation Services for handicapped workers by having one of their clients model. She is a beautiful woman with severe physical and some intellectual handicaps, but a stunning model. I have preped a verdaccio underpainting (basically a green tonal painting) and will put color on the background and clothing and let my model sit by me as I put color into her face and finish the painting at the event.
If you are interested in developing a client base, I suggest charity. I spent a number of failed effort simply putting out a gift certificate for a portrait, but I found the charities got higher bids and I actually got the certificate redeemed by doing demostrations at the silent auction. Also, my small donation has ALWAYS been upgraded to a larger piece or double portrait.
I believe I can link a photo, so here is what the underpainting will look like. I am putting in the clothing this weekend:
